What is a University College?

Historically, the term “university” has been used to designate institutions that award degrees in academic disciplines such as humanities, social sciences, natural sciences (etc.). The term “college” typically refers to an institution offering professional training such as aviation, business administration, TESOL (etc.). Since Providence offers both academic and professional training, we are a University College.

What should I take if I don’t know what program I want to go into?

There are required courses that every student has to take regardless of their program. You can start by taking these required courses, after which you can declare a major. (A major is the area you’d like to specialize in. For example, you’re getting a Bachelor of Science in Biology.) An academic advisor is available to help you choose a major and register for the courses you need to graduate.

I want to be a nurse. I want to be a teacher. Does Providence offer these programs?

While Providence doesn’t offer a nursing program, we do offer a Bachelor degree in science with prerequisite HEALTH SCIENCE courses such as Human Anatomy, Histology and Physiology. If you want to pursue further studies in nursing after your time at Providence, these courses can be transferred to other institutions such as the University of Manitoba or Red River College.

It’s the same with teaching. Although Providence doesn’t offer a Bachelor of Education, you can start your BA, BBA or BSc at Providence. And then, you can pursue additional courses at another institution to qualify to become a school teacher.

Are Providence programs accredited?
