Providence Graduate: Paige

Graduation Year: 2024

Post-Graduate Education: Optometry Student at the University of Waterloo

In Paige’s Own Words: “I attended Providence from 2020-2024 where I studied health science and played on the women’s soccer team. When I began studying at Providence, I knew entering into optometry at the University of Waterloo was my goal for the future and the science program at Prov provided me a path to achieve this. Numerous classes within my degree offered opportunities to learn about communication in scientific writing and discussions, which is important in pursuing any career in science. Many of my classes allowed me to complete assignments that focused on different topics relating to optometry and how eyes are connected to overall health, which was beneficial in exploring this future career path. Providence helps students aim higher as it provides an educational environment that allows students to flourish. Smaller class sizes allow for more discussion and collaboration between students and professors, which improves understanding of the material and its application. From my experience, the professors in the science program are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the courses that they teach, and they care about their students and want them to succeed. Another reason I would recommend Prov is the welcoming and friendly community it offers. My experience in the classroom and on my soccer team allowed me to meet some truly amazing people, as I am thankful for the coaches and professors that pushed me to be my best and the lifelong friends that I made. My experience at Providence has shaped me as a student as the courses I took there provided me with the knowledge and education I needed to enter optometry school. My time at Providence has allowed me to grow as a person, as I learned about work ethic and discipline both in the classroom and on the soccer field. Prov also provided me with an opportunity to grow in my faith through the Bible classes I took as well as the lessons that taught me the importance of trusting in God and the plans He has for my life.”
