Providence Graduate: Dami
Graduation Year: 2024
Current Role: Trauma Informed & Permanency Caseworker
In Dami’s Own Words: “My journey with Providence began in the fall of 2020. When most were hesitant to start out a new journey in this midst of a global crisis, I took a leap of faith towards the institution that God was calling me to. My aspiration for attending Providence was to be able to build and grow in my faith while working towards my career goals, which is exactly what occurred. Starting off with Social Work, I began to realize the benefit a degree in Social Science would allow me to yield the most impact out of what I felt called to. Through the help and mentorship of my amazing advisor, Dr. Morgan Mulenga, and encouragement and affirmations from other faculty at Providence, I was able to grow into my fullest potential. At Providence, I built interpersonal skills through the part-time roles I had in enrolment and working with athletics. Through the position as a Resident Assistant and Student Council President, I was given the opportunity to apply my creative thinking to curate the “Student Pantry” initiative and better relational bonds amongst students. The recognition and nomination for awards allowed me to tangibly see the qualities that others envisioned in me. And from the one-on-one and intimate class sizes, I grew in depth of thought and understanding – not only in my faith but also in how Christ can be integrated in my career. Working within an Indigenous community, I have seen how resiliency not only applies to an individual’s social condition (i.e. worldly factors) but also to their faith. As a result, my work consists of assisting with many people’s social and psychological needs but also being an encourager of hope and faith in said spaces. My education at Providence helped in reinstating and growing qualities that God had already instilled in my character and identity. Providence University College has been an impactful stepping stone to me living out my purpose and calling in the way God desires, through countless opportunities provided for me to be apart of the legacy in and out of the institution. I look forward to how Providence will advance and impact lives, just like mine!”
