Welcome Week is well underway on the Providence campus, and new and returning students are buzzing with the energy supplied by the Prov Cup, alumni soccer games, comic intros and a free concert featuring Scribe and Jordan St. Cyr.

Completing an exciting Sunday that also included chapel, soccer and a barbecue dinner, Jordan St. Cyr opened the third annual Welcome Week Kick-Off concert with an upbeat, worship-themed set in which he performed singles “Victory,” “In My Lifetime” and “I Look to Jesus.” Headliner Scribe further electrified the audience of Providence students, employees, parents and supporters with hits from his hip-hop albums Send Help and Keys to the City.

To end the night, the two performers sang hymns with the audience, which re-arranged its chairs in a circle, and led everyone in a time of prayer and worship.

“Last night was LEGENDARY,” commented Scribe on Instagram. “These moments NEED to happen everywhere on campus. Where two or more are gathered!”

Orientation exercises continued on Monday, and student leaders delivered their much-anticipated “comic intros”—a Providence Welcome Week staple—after dinner.

Academic orientation will continue through the week, with activities such as a bonfire, an ice cream social, a comedy show by Matt Falk, a desert evening with professors, fireworks and a banquet highlighting the evenings. Classes are scheduled to begin Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.

One of the more popular—and photogenic—Welcome Week events was the second annual Prov Cup, which pit cohorts of new students against one another in an outdoor test of athleticism, strategy and teamwork. This year the winner was Mile Two Discipleship School. Congrats, Mile Two!
