Providence Partners with Futures Forward

May 22, 2025 | Institution / General, News, University College

Otterburne, MB – Providence University College is proud to announce its new partnership with Futures Forward, joining the growing network of post-secondary institutions participating in the Youth in Care Tuition Waiver Program. This collaboration is a transformative initiative and reinforces the university’s ongoing commitment to equity, accessibility, and student success.

Beginning in September 2025, Providence is preparing to welcome its first tuition waiver recipient, offering an eligible current or former youth in Manitoba’s Child and Family Services (CFS) care a chance to pursue higher education with fewer financial barriers. Through this partnership, eligible students may have up to 100% of their tuition waived and can also receive Living Supports funding through Manitoba’s Training and Employment Services.

Access to education shouldn’t be limited by someone’s past or circumstances,” says Holly Ammerman, Financial Aid Administrator at Providence. “Partnering with Futures Forward allows Providence to extend meaningful support to youth who have experienced care, and to help remove financial barriers that may have previously made higher education feel out of reach. We hope this partnership not only opens doors for students but also empowers them to pursue their calling with confidence, purpose, and a strong community behind them.”

Benefits of Partnering with Futures Forward

By joining Futures Forward’s network of institutions, Providence gains access to a well-established support system tailored to the needs of youth in and from care. Futures Forward offers comprehensive wraparound services to help students navigate both academic and personal challenges. These include:

  • Personalized coaching and mentoring
  • Financial and employment support
  • Career exploration and planning resources

Partnering institutions benefit from expert guidance on how to implement tuition waiver programs effectively and create trauma-informed, student-centered support systems. These partnerships foster inclusive learning environments and encourage systemic change that enhances student retention and success for some of Manitoba’s most vulnerable young people.

A Commitment to Hope and Opportunity

Providence’s involvement in the Youth in Care Tuition Waiver Program underscores its student-first mission to cultivate academic excellence while equipping students to make a difference in their communities. This partnership reflects a shared vision with Futures Forward: a future where every young person—regardless of their background—has the opportunity to pursue their educational dreams.

“We’re excited to welcome Providence as the newest post-secondary institution to join the Youth in Care Tuition Waiver Program,” shares Futures Forward Outreach Coordinator, Evan Forest. “This initiative helps to eliminate obstacles to education for current and former youth in care, and we look forward to partnering with Providence as they help create opportunities for brighter futures for these young people.”
