Providence getting ready for 2018-19 Welcome Week

Aug 23, 2018 | Institution / General, News

Providence is gearing up for Welcome Week, which will begin next Friday, August 31, with the arrival of new students on the Otterburne campus. The six-day orientation period will also include an alumni soccer game, a movie night, a bonfire and a free concert featuring Scribe and Joran St. Cyr.

Once again this year all new students will make their way through “the funnel,” where they’ll be helped through registration, receive their residence keys, connect to WIFI and have their photos taken. Campus tours will begin at 2:00 p.m., and parents will have the chance to participate in their own orientation session later in the afternoon.

Sunday will begin with morning chapel, after which returning students will be welcomed back to campus. The alumni soccer games will kick off at 1:00 p.m., and all students, alumni, faculty and staff will be treated to a BBQ dinner at 4:30 p.m. De Luca’s will be on hand to serve after-dinner coffee, and gelato and donuts will be provided free of charge as well. At 6:30 p.m. the concert will begin.

Morning chapel will also take place on both Monday and Tuesday, after which new and returning students will take part in academic orientation. The evenings will feature comic introductions, residence care group meetings, board games and a bonfire.

Classes begin Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., but Welcome Week festivities, including a comedy show by Matt Falk and an ice cream social, continue through Friday and the 9:00 p.m. fireworks.

Students are encouraged to consult the Welcome Week schedule, which is also available on the Providence app—available for free download.
