Late last month the United Nations accused Myanmar’s military of genocide in the Kachin, Rakhine and Shan states, where, the international body charged, “the gravest crimes under international law” had been committed.
Providence President Dr. David Johnson, who led a contingent representing the institution to Myanmar last November, recently spoke with CHVN 95.1FM about the situation in Kachin State, which he and his colleagues witnessed first hand.
“Part of the goal of the trip was to find out what was going on. They said, ‘people send us money, and people send us food, but nobody ever comes to hear our story.’ So we sat and listened,” he explained, adding, “It brought tears to my eyes.”
