Brief Description: How should we relate to dead Christians of the past who, in our eyes, betrayed the faith—the legalists, cowards and hypocrites; even the crusaders and colonizers? The Book of Numbers can be read as the Old Testament’s answer. Numbers tells the story of Israel’s unfaithful generation getting lost and dying in the wilderness. The book is unflinchingly honest. But it is also more than a cautionary tale. Numbers charts the limits of “steadfast love” in the face of betrayal and apostasy.
