A Great Turnout for Providence’s 22nd Golf Classic

Sep 11, 2020 | Institution / General, News

Providence hosted its 22nd Annual Golf Classic on August 18, 2020 at Quarry Oaks near Steinbach, MB. Even though the event, which is traditionally held in June, was postponed to August due to COVID-19 interruptions, approximately 110 golfers participated in a fun-filled day on the greens. Staggered tee times on the 440-acre golf course ensured a safe and physically distanced experience.

Gina Turnbull, our new Annual Fund Development Coordinator, says the day was enjoyed by all. “While the tournament was set up quite differently, most golfers actually preferred the new format! It was a great day. The sun was shining, and we were able to be together in person which was very encouraging and life-giving.”

The Golf Classic is a tradition that draws the friends of Providence together in a special way, providing unique opportunities for people to connect and interact. More than $50,000 was raised thanks to our generous golfers, prize donors and sponsors. All proceeds, says Turnbull, are earmarked for student scholarships. Providence is delighted to be able to provide an affordable option to students who are looking for a quality, Christ-centered education. Every donation this year will make a direct impact on students’ lives.

Golfers participated in fun games, competitions and a raffle situated throughout the course, ending the day with a take home Boston Pizza and Dairy Queen Dilly Bar. Carl Fast, Eddy Goertzen and Steve Fast will have their names engraved on the 22-year-old trophy as this year’s winning team!

We would like to thank all our donors, sponsors, volunteers and the Quarry Oaks staff for making this Golf Classic another success!

“To be able to maintain one of Providence’s traditions even in the face of a pandemic was overwhelmingly encouraging to me and to the whole institution,” Samantha Groenendijk, Vice President of External Relations, said.

Hope to see you all back for 2021! Watch a short highlight video of this year’s tournament below.
