Junior Pilots Club Program Update

Jun 10, 2026 | Athletics, News

OTTERBURNE, MB – Providence Athletics would like to congratulate all Junior Pilots teams on another successful club volleyball season. Several teams achieved strong results, including medals at nationals, and every team represented Providence with pride, commitment, and excellence throughout the year.

With the season now complete, Providence is excited to officially welcome the Junior Pilots into the new Pilots Athletics rebrand, which was announced earlier this spring at the varsity athletics banquet. The updated Junior Pilots logo reflects the new visual identity of Providence Athletics uniting both Pilots programs.

Providence Athletics is also pleased to announce that Becky Heidebrecht has been hired as the new Junior Pilots Club Coordinator. Becky will be taking over from Tracy McDonald, who will be moving on from her role this summer.

Becky brings a strong history with Providence and the Junior Pilots program. She began as a Providence varsity athlete, where she was part of an NCCAA National Championship team. She later served as head coach of the Providence women’s varsity volleyball team in 2009-10, leading the team to an NCCAA Region Championship. Since then, Becky has remained heavily involved in the Junior Pilots Club, coaching a variety of age groups and investing in the development of young athletes across the region.

As Providence Athletics looks ahead, the Junior Pilots Club will be shifting in a new strategic direction.

Providence is currently undergoing several significant changes, including the return of varsity home games to campus. While this is an exciting step forward for the varsity athletics program and the student experience at Providence, it also means that the campus gym facility will no longer be available to support the Junior Pilots Club at its previous scale.

In addition, Providence, like many Canadian colleges and universities, has experienced budget reductions connected to federal government limitations placed on international students. As a result, Providence no longer has the resources required to operate and support a large-scale club program in the same way it has in the past.

In response, Providence Athletics has made the strategic decision to shift the vision of the Junior Pilots Club from serving as many athletes as possible to focusing more intentionally on athlete development and recruitment pathways into university and college sport.

Beginning next season, the Junior Pilots Club will offer one boys team and one girls team at each age level, starting at 15U and extending through 18U, based on athlete interest, coaching availability, and program capacity.

Providence Athletics would like to sincerely thank all current and former coaches, managers, players, parents, and supporters who have contributed to the Junior Pilots Club over the years. The program has had a meaningful impact on athletes and families throughout the region, and that legacy is something Providence is proud to celebrate.

We recognize that these changes mean many athletes will be looking for new teams and opportunities moving forward. Providence is encouraged to hear of new local clubs being developed and hopes these programs will help meet the needs of athletes in the region. Providence Athletics fully supports the growth of new volleyball opportunities in the community and wishes those clubs every success.

For the teams Providence will continue to operate next season, there is great excitement about the future of the Junior Pilots Club and its renewed vision. Under Becky’s leadership, the club will focus its resources on developing players and coaches, creating a strong high-performance environment, and helping athletes pursue their full potential in the sport.

Further details about the Junior Pilots Club, including team plans, tryout information, coaching announcements, and program expectations, will be shared in the weeks and months ahead.

Providence Athletics wishes all Junior Pilots families a wonderful summer and looks forward to another great season of club volleyball.
