OTTERBURNE, MB – Providence hosted its 24th Annual Golf Classic on August 17th at Quarry Oaks, a beautiful 440-acre, 27-hole golf course near Steinbach, Manitoba. More than 150 golfers registered for the tee time tournament which included a silent auction, raffle, contests, games and food stations strategically placed throughout the challenging course.
This year, nearly $70,000 was raised thanks to generous golfers, prize donors and sponsors. For 24 years, the tournament has been an important tradition where the Providence community comes together to support students through The Providence Fund in the form of scholarships and bursaries.
“Having been a part of the Providence community for the past nine years, I’ve seen first-hand through my husband (2017 grad) how transformational a Providence education really is,” said event organizer and Annual Fund Development Coordinator Melissa Bechard. “I am so honored to be involved in this amazing event that helps make a Christian education accessible to more students. It’s exciting to see the external community come together and make a huge impact in the lives of our current students.”
Golfers enjoyed some new additions to the tournament, such as the Di Raeggae Bar and Grill that was stationed at one of the ‘holes in ones,’ serving chicken wings to golfers. Also, CHVN 95.1 FM radio host, Sylvia St. Cyr, came “live on location” and aired short interviews with 10 of our Providence people.
It was a warm, sunny day on the course and all our golfers enjoyed some friendly competition. A special congratulations go to Darrel Guenther, Kyle Guenther, Cody Quiring and Frederic Pauls who are the top team at the tournament. Their winning score was -14. They will soon have their names engraved on our trophy!
Providence would like to thank all of our donors, sponsors, volunteers and Quarry Oaks staff for making this Golf Classic a great success. We hope to see you all again for the 25th Providence Golf Classic on June 13, 2023!
