QUARRY OAKS, MB – Even when precipitation is not in the forecast, Spring in Manitoba has been particularly rainy this year. One week ago on Tuesday, June 11th was no exception, but this did not dampen the spirits of those 146 golfers who attended Providence’s 26th Annual Golf Classic.
The sold-out tournament was once again played on 18 of 27 holes at the beautiful 440-acre course at Quarry Oaks – located between Steinbach and La Broquerie. Participants gathered for breakfast under an overcast sky before the 10:30am shotgun start, which was followed by the first half of the course’s holes being played through windy and rainy conditions. After lunch, the weather improved substantially, allowing players to finish their game with a glimpse of the sun.
The event concluded with words by VP of Development Ron Hogue and the University College’s 2024 Valedictorian Madison Franks, with silent auction, raffle prizes and presentation of the winning teams facilitated by Annual Fund Coordinator Melissa Bechard. This year, first place in the tournament went to Jay Thielmann, Bailey Funk, Lucas Pappel and Drake Carvill. Congratulations!
A total of $63 760 was raised this year to support students through the Providence Fund, which is designated to help students with the cost of their studies through scholarships and bursaries. Accordingly, Providence would like to thank all of the donors, sponsors, volunteers and Quarry Oaks staff for making this Golf Classic a great success. See you again in 2025!
