New Cross-Country Head Coach at Providence

OTTERBURNE, MB – The Providence Pilots are pleased to announce the hiring of Nick Reimer as head coach to build and lead the Pilots’ new men’s and women’s cross-country program, slated to launch in Fall 2026.

“Nick brings a rare blend of endurance sport expertise, student-mentorship, and faith-centered leadership,” said Joel Coursey, Director of Athletics. “His vision fits Providence perfectly: develop resilient runners, build a Christ-centered team culture, and compete the right way from day one.”

Reimer competed with the Winnipeg Optimist Track Club (2009–2011) and qualified for the Canadian Junior National Track & Field Championships (2011). He holds a Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Manitoba (2016) and has stayed active as a road and trail racer.

His training philosophy draws on the Norwegian Endurance Method, which is a science-based approach emphasizing aerobic capacity, lactate-threshold development, and injury prevention through strength training. “I want our athletes to grow in consistency, resilience, and Christ-centered character – during the XC season and through year-round training that also prepares them for track, road, and trail,” Reimer said.

Beyond sport, Reimer brings seven years of pastoral leadership experience that informs his team-building and mentorship on and off the course. “With Providence launching men’s and women’s cross-country in 2026, this is the perfect moment to establish clear standards, smart training, and a welcoming community that helps runners thrive,” Reimer added. “We’ll focus on durable aerobic development, wise progressions, and a competitive culture that reflects our faith.”

Providence will begin identification and recruitment of prospective student-athletes immediately, laying the foundation for training groups, competition schedules, and community partnerships ahead of the Fall 2026 debut. Interested recruits and partners are encouraged to connect with Pilots Athletics for more information.
