The Providence Pilots women’s volleyball team won three of four matches at last weekend’s Lake Region Tournament in Devils Lake ND and look to be ready to challenge for a National Christian College Athletic Association Regional Championship next month.
Coming off mixed results from a tournament in Red Deer AB, the women were looking to rebound October 14 and 15 and swept Lake Region State College and Dakota College in straight sets to start their schedule.

However, as the tournament progressed the Pilots found themselves facing increasingly stiff competition. They were truly tested by Dawson Community College but prevailed over five sets. In their fourth and final match of the tournament Providence went up against Bismarck State College, and despite winning the opening set they fell to a 3-1 defeat.
“We gave everything we had in all four matches, which is all I can ask for,” remarked head coach Kyle Guenther. “We are progressing in the right direction as we approach the heart of our U.S. season.”
Statistically, Danella Alvaro produced 47 kills and 40 digs over the course of the weekend and Shayna Staerk added 42 kills and 43 digs. Sam Bridle contributed an impressive 165 assists and was named NCCAA Div. II Women’s Volleyball Student Athlete of the Week.
Next up for the Pilots is the Providence home tournament October 20-22.
