Women’s hoops add Makenna Van Muyen of Abbotsford, BC to the 2021 roster. The 5’8” forward becomes the 4th addition of this offseason for the Pilots, and the 1st player to join the team from outside of Manitoba or Saskatchewan.
Makenna brings grit and high energy to the Pilots, as she thrives on the defensive side of the game. Her size makes her versatile at the college level and her ability to guard multiple positions will be an advantage. Makenna’s high energy leads to steels, jump balls and rebounding on both ends. “I am expecting her to lead with her work ethic and positive attitude. I think that Makenna has an opportunity to work her way into games and help us be successful. She is passionate about the game and wants to do what it takes to help her team win, and that will go a long way,” says coach Coursey.
Makenna did not take long to make the decision to join the Pilots, and that enthusiasm is reciprocated by her coaches. “I’m so excited to be joining the Providence University basketball team and be a part of something that is bigger than myself. I cannot wait to see what God has planned for the team and myself this year, as I study social sciences.” Makenna is also passionate about her church and carrying for those around her. When not on the court, Makenna spends her time volunteering with kids at her church or on missions trips to other countries such as Belize and Nicaragua. “Yet not I but through Christ in me,” has become a mantra for Makenna, as she seeks to serve others.
The Pilots will welcome Makenna with open arms when they kick off their training camp on September 3rd.
