Women’s futsal team solidifies second place

Thursday, February 15, 2018

Both Providence Pilots futsal teams faced tough matches this past weekend, taking on rivals Canadian Mennonite University at home and Universite de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges away.

In women’s action, the Pilots could not break down CMU’s defense and lost 6-2. However, they rebounded against USB and put six points between themselves and their third-place opposition with a 4-2 win.

The men, meanwhile, played to an entertaining 5-5 draw with CMU before falling 11-3 to USB. Currently fourth in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic conference standings, they remain two points above fifth-place Red River College.

“We had a tough weekend where we fought the top teams in our divisions,” remarked women’s head coach Tory Walker. “We will continue to push and show the MCAC just what type of teams we truly are.”

Next up for Providence is a March 3 double-header at home to Brandon University and Assiniboine Community College.
