With their sights set on a national birth in year one of competing nationally in the CCAA, the Pilots increase their odds with the addition of Austin Anderson. From the starting libero of the 2016 Manitoba provincial team, to the 2018 MHSAA number 4 ranked player in the province, and most recently becoming a 3x U Sport Academic All-Canadian, Anderson brings a wealth of experience and talent to an already high flying Pilots team. While playing for the University of Winnipeg, Austin appeared in 43 Canada West matches, and was selected as the Wesmen athletics male rookie of the year across all sports.
Not holding back, coach Quiring is “extremely excited to add a student-athlete of Austin’s caliber to the roster for this coming season. Austin comes to Providence looking to make an immediate impact on and off the court. His ability to be an efficient offensive left side combined with his extreme talent on the passing and defensive end, enables him to take over a game. Our coaching staff is excited to watch first hand, the impact Austin will have with out team, in the MCAC and CCAA this year.” After trading his UofW red for the Pilots blue, Anderson is “extremely excited to be a part of the volleyball team at Providence. I can’t wait to be a part of this group and make an impact on the court.”
Austin is quite familiar with Providence, as he flew with the Junior Pilots program near the start of his volleyball career. Now with the varsity team, Providence will look to lean on more then Anderson’s attacking prowess and defensive versatility, but also to the leadership he can bring to this young team.
