With the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference season fast approaching, the Providence Pilots basketball teams continued their pre-season schedules in the United States last weekend.
At Mayville State University in North Dakota the men’s side lost 111-52 to their hosts before rebounding with an 88-83 win over Mayville’s Junior Varsity outfit.
The women, meanwhile, played a series of scrimmages against Rainy River Community College in International Falls MN. Scores weren’t kept, but nevertheless Pilots coach Joel Coursey felt the preparation was useful.
“It was nice to play an opponent that is closer to our level and see how we stack up,” he remarked. “I think the scrimmages were valuable in showing growth and illuminating areas in which we need to improve before our season begins.
Both Pilots teams will now travel to Bottineau ND for another pair of pre-season games.
