The Providence Pilots women’s futsal season began just like the outdoor soccer campaign—with a goal from Julika Phommarath.
The star striker, who led her side all the way to a National Christian College Athletic Association final in November, then added two more goals to complete her hat-trick. Zoe Kriznic, Doro Schultz and Amelia Reimer also found the back of the net en route to a 6-0 thrashing of the Red River College Rebels in Winnipeg.
“This was a great way to start our futsal season,” remarked head coach Tory Walker. “All week we worked on our systems, and as a team we stuck to those systems and played a really great game both offensively and defensively. I think it was a great game for the first-year players, too. It game them a taste of the fast-paced game futsal is.”
In the men’s action, Devin Vermette scored the Pilots first goal of the campaign although he and his teammates lost 4-3 to the rebels.
Both Providence teams will face the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers this Friday in Winnipeg.
