This past Saturday, September 22, saw our men’s and women’s Pilots soccer teams face the University of Saint Boniface in Winnipeg, Manitoba. On a blustery, cold, rainy day the conditions for the game were not ideal. The men’s team fell 2-1 to USB and the lone Pilots goal was scored by captain Herby Magny.
The men’s coach Joey Passi shared his thoughts on the game “I thought we deserved at least a tie from how the game went, but unfortunately that’s how the game of soccer goes. A couple of defensive blunders cost us the match. Outside of those defensive lapses though, our defense for the most part was okay. We will fix those issues and rebound like we always do. In the second half we just didn’t get the breaks as their goalie made a couple great saves and we hit the post. Outside of that though, we’re looking forward to getting a chance to play Brandon again next weekend as we had a terrible outing against them a couple of weeks ago and since then we’ve come a long ways.”
For the women’s side the team was led to a 1-0 win by Makayla Myers' 2nd half goal. She commented about the game, saying, “Our team played with confidence and hard work throughout the game this weekend, learning how to play as one. We are starting to find our game as a team and working to find the results that we believe can achieve together. I’m excited to win more games with these girls and battle for more great soccer this upcoming weekend!” First year striker Makayla produced 10 of the Pilots' 14 shots on net and she hit a few posts. Coach Tory Walker said “Saturday was a hard game to play in, the weather in Winnipeg was unusually cold, rainy and windy. The team came into the game prepared for a battle and they fought hard. Our defense had a great bounce back game and closed up shop in the back. Forward Makayla Myer did a fantastic job up front creating chance after chance. I was proud of the team’s toughness and ability to close out the game with a solid win on the road.”
The Pilots head out to Brandon, Manitoba again this weekend to play Assiniboine Community College on Saturday and then at home on Sunday against Brandon University.
