Pilots soccer had some ups, downs and thunderstorms this weekend as we saw both teams go south of the border to face Presentation College Saints and Jamestown University Jimmies.
Training camp started last week Thursday, and the teams had three days to prep for their first road trip to North and South Dakota. Women’s head coach Tory Walker says, “This has been a super intense week, with trying to build team unity and to prep for a big weekend. I was very impressed with the nine new freshman in this group and they have all bought in to what we are trying to build.”
First year player Claire Yager had this to say about her transition to the new Pilots women’s team: “It’s only been five days but I feel as though I’ve already been on the team for so much longer than that. We had some tough battles this past weekend but with the way we pushed through I can already tell it’s going to be a fantastic season.”
The women’s team went 1-1 this weekend, with a win vs Presentation College and a loss vs Jamestown.
On the men’s side they had a big 3-1 win vs Presentation and were deadlocked vs Jamestown before the game was canceled due to bad weather. Men’s coach Joey Passi had this to say: “I thought we had a great start to our season with three solid days of training camp and had great results for our first two games against hard competition. Presentation was a great win for us and in Jamestown against a very athletic and talented team the boys did well to hold on defensively for a draw. I’m excited to finish off our training camp and continue to get results as we get into MCAC competition.”
This Sunday the soccer teams play the alumni teams at 1 & 3 PM.
