Pilots Men’s Basketball Sign Point Guard Kevin Martinez

The 5’8” point guard from Guelph, Ontario, Kevin Martinez, has signed his letter of intent to announce his commitment to the Pilots men’s basketball team for this fall.

“I am enthusiastic to take part in small class sizes and grow relationships with all the students and staff in Providence's small-knit Christian community,” says Martinez,  “I am extremely grateful and super excited to play for Providence's well-rounded, remarkable basketball program. I feel that Coach Pierre is giving me the best opportunity to grow as a student-athlete, and he is invested in me as a person, and that is definitely something I value, especially going into the post-secondary level. My goal is to win a National Championship, and I cannot wait to get in the gym and get to work with the team. Go Pilots!”

Martinez, the Spire Academy and Our Lady of Lourdes point guard, plans on studying in the Buller School of Business at Providence this fall.

High school coach, Coleen Driscoll, shared insight on his skill and character by saying, “Kevin has an innate feel for the game which will translate well at the post-secondary level. He is an excellent playmaker and will create great opportunities for his teammates in transition as well as in the half-court. He is a lethal shooter from the perimeter with great range to spread the floor. He has developed into a strong on ball defender and is willing to battle inside despite being undersized. Kevin's leadership, strong work ethic and solid character will make him a great asset to the Providence Pilots' basketball program.”

On adding Martinez to the roster for this next fall, head coach Pierre Dubreuil commented, “I am thrilled with the addition of Kevin to our roster. Over the last couple of weeks of getting to know him, Kevin has displayed a level of maturity and self-reflection that is rare in a young man. I am very confident that he will bring a lot to our program and will be a great contributor to our success right from the start.”

Welcome to the Pilot family Kevin!
