From the Coach:

Leading up to our match against CMU on Friday, we had been playing some of our best volleyball of the year and were excited to test ourselves against the best team in the MCAC. In each of the first two sets the team battled hard and played some good volleyball, leading at various point in both sets. However, we faltered in the later stages of each set and gave up a couple of big runs, eventually leading to the loss of the set. The third set saw us start from behind and were unable to gain on their lead. Overall, we saw that we are definitely able to compete with them but we also saw that we need to be much more consistent if we are going to want to compete well enough to give ourselves a chance to win.

Saturday was a rematch of Wednesday’s game against St. Boniface. This was our 3rd match in 4 days and I was concerned about our ability to maintain the level of mental focus and emotional energy that is needed for these tough matches. Unfortunately, we were unable to bring the level we needed, were flat right from the start, and were unable to recover. St. Boniface served and passed well and were able to side out effectively and they also made it tough on us by playing great defense.

We have another tough match coming up this Tuesday against CMU. This will be the last game of a really tough stretch where we play 4 matches in 7 days. Hopefully we are able to recover enough to put out a solid effort against a strong opponent.

From the Players:

“In these past two games, we weren’t able to connect as well as we have in the past. We had low energy and weren’t able to get any momentum going. But we are looking to get back on track against CMU this Tuesday!” (Trey Friesen, 1st year Left Side from Rosenort, MB)
