Pilots Flight Report: Men's Volleyball January 12

Pilots volleyball headed into Winnipeg to set off, and start 2019 on the right foot. They did that by winning the first set of the match but couldn't continue the run and feel short to school rival Canadian Mennonite University.

Game #1
GAME: Providence Pilots vs Canadian Mennonite University
DATE: Saturday, January 12, 2019
LOCATION: Winnipeg, MB

Matt Friesen 15 kills, 4 blocks, 5 digs, 1 ace
Brett Foley 6 blocks, 5 kills
Trey Friesen 7 kills, 2 blocks, 2 digs, 1 ace

I thought the team played well for our first match back after the break. Other than the 2nd and 4th sets where we gave up big runs to put ourselves behind, we competed with them fairly well. We definitely played with the belief that we could win and we are seeing in ourselves the quality of volleyball that is needed to beat a team like CMU. We just need to find a way to be more consistent with that level.
We have some big matches coming up against ACC next weekend. We will do ourselves a lot of favors in the standings if we can find a way to win both matches.

Players View:

Saturday was a challenge for our team. we were playing our first games of 2019, while our opponent had already logged numerous games. We started very strong and won the first set, but as the game went on it was evident that we were not at our top form. We are all ready to clean up a few things with a solid practice week at practice. And we are looking to bounce back this weekend with a double header - Pierce Dresser

NEXT UP: Assiniboine Community College Cougars (4-6)
DATE: Friday, January 18, 2019
