Last weekend was a testing one for the Providence Pilots basketball teams, both of which faced difficult, pre-season opposition in North Dakota.
On Saturday the men opened their schedule with a 139-78 loss at the University of Jamestown and were defeated 132-53 by the same opponents on Sunday. At a very competitive Mayville State University the Pilots women lost 134-38 on Saturday and 94-30 on Sunday.
“As difficult as these games were for us we learned a lot about ourselves and will be better prepared for our league games,” reflected women’s head coach Joel Coursey. “It can be hard to see the value in playing such tough opponents, but we feel it helped us see what top-level teams look like while magnifying the areas where we need to improve.”
Next up for the women is a series of games at Rainy River Community College in International Falls MN while the men will travel to Mayville.
