Pilots Nathan Ens is the MCAC Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 14, 2021
Quite the week as Providence University College (PUC) Pilots captured their first two conference wins of the season in week two of the 2021-22 Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) men’s basketball season. First year Nathan Ens was a force on both sides of the ball for the week ending Nov. 14, 2021.
During the weekend sweep, Ens cleaned up with 26 boards along with 38 points while shooting at a 50% clip from mid-range in two games of a home-and-home series against the Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) Les Rouges.
To start the weekend, the Carman, MB native dropped 16 points and nine rebounds with five assists and two steals in just over 27 minutes of play in a 72-60 win. On Sat., Nov. 13, Ens registered a double-double with a game-high 17 board plus 22 points (11/22 from the field), three assists and two steals in 30 minutes in the 104-50 victory.
PUC’s head coach Pierre Dubreuil commented, “Nate has shown potential since day one in this team. But it’s only this past weekend that he was finally able to unlock his potential and show what he is capable of. On our home opener versus USB, he delivered 16 points and nine rebounds. The next day, his presence inside on defence helped us take control of the game early. And on the offensive end, he had a double-double with 22 points and 17 rebounds. I’m looking forward to seeing him play to his potential throughout the season.”
The General Biology student-athlete at PUC will not be in conference action this week as the Pilots have a bye and look to continue this winning streak when they host Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Blazers on Nov. 26 and 27 with tip-off each night at 8 p.m. CT.
