Abigail Matuszewski starts the signings for the 2020 Women's Basketball recruiting season.
Abigail, a Guard from Winkler Manitoba is the first player to sign for the Pilots Women's Basketball team and head coach, Joel Coursey is excited!
“It has been great, getting to watch Abby grow from year to year. I have had the privilege of watching her at our sports camps for the past few summers. It is really cool when you notice talent at a young age and get to watch it develop over time. It’s even better when that kid decides to play for you! We have had some really great athletes attend our basketball camp prior to signing with the Pilots, and Abby will be joining former sports camper and team sharp shooter, Natalya Reimer.” Coursey continues by saying, “I am excited for the energy and passion that Abby brings. She is a player with strong fundamentals and high IQ, which has come from some good coaching at her high school and with the Prairie Elite club team. It’s special when you find a player who understands what your program values and is excited to join it. In my experience, the players who don’t need much convincing, stay long-term and become fixtures in the program. I think Abby has a bright future at Providence and will contribute to the growth of our program. We are all excited for next season, and what we will be able to do with a veteran team consisting of 4 seniors along with some incoming players like Abby!”
Abigail currently attends Garden Valley Collegiate where she is the team captain, was awarded MVP in grade 11, and has played on the varsity team since grade 10. Abigail also plays for club team Prairie Elite.
“After being able to experience Providence at their sports camps, I’m very excited to move on as a part of their community and be able to play basketball at the collegiate level with Providence!” (Abigail Matuszewski)
Besides playing basketball here at Providence, Abigail plans on studying Humanities.
Welcome to the Pilot Family Abigail!
