SUMMARY:Seminary: Public Lecture (Book of Job)
DESCRIPTION:“A Voice in the Whirlwind: Suffering and Hope in Job” \nThe book of Job tells the story of a righteous man who loses everything and his journey towards hope. It helps us grapple with many questions that arise when we experience suffering: How do we respond when everything in our lives is turned upside down? How do we make sense of grief\, pain\, and suffering? Is hope possible when everything seems lost? The book of Job offers us an up-close picture of righteous suffering\, the pain of accusatory friends\, and the hope of God’s presence in the depths of great loss. \nPresenter: Dr. Beth Stovell\, Professor of Old Testament (Ambrose Seminary) \nLocation: Maranatha Church\, 99 Main Street\, Niverville / Zoom \nREGISTER HERE (in person or Zoom).

SUMMARY:Seminary: Public Lecture (Chronicles of Narnia)
DESCRIPTION:“What Narnia Teaches Us About Being Mere Christians Today” \nIn this lecture\, we will consider how we can read C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia\, from a practical theological point of view. In an increasingly post-Christian age\, the Chronicles continue to gain popularity with each generation. Lewis believed that by visiting the imaginary Narnian world we could more clearly see what is going on in our world\, and what God is up to in it. From his many letters to children\, it is evident that he expected adults to use these stories as a primer for children to think through deep theological matters early in life. In particular\, the lecture will explore the ways in which the seventh book\, The Last Battle\, teaches us about how to live as mere Christians in our current cultural moment. \nPresenter: Dr. Dwain Tissell\, Western Seminary\, Portland \nLocation: Fourth Ave Bible Church\, 62 Fourth Avenue South\, Niverville / Zoom \nREGISTER HERE (in person or Zoom).
