DESCRIPTION:Title: The Absence of Jesus: John’s Gospel for a Secular Age \nPresenter: Dr. Joshua Coutts (Associate Professor of New Testament) \nDescription: In one sense\, the whole of the Christian life is a grappling with the (apparent) absence of God. In modern society\, this has taken a material\, technological\, immanent shape. And the absence of God exacerbates the other challenges we face: opposition\, division\, deconstruction\, death. This lecture proposes that the Gospel of John is surprisingly equipped to address us in our time. Concluding with a blessing for those who had never seen Jesus (John 20:29)\, the Gospel functions like a pair of glasses\, intended to disciple readers in how and where the God revealed in Jesus is to be found. “Come and see!” \nDate/Time: Thursday\, October 24\, 12:00-1:30pm \nLocation: South Howison Room\, SLC \n*** The event is free and open to the public.
