Summer/Fall 2021

Plans for Returning to In-Person Classes

2020-2021 has been a challenging year. The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have been felt across our campus. Restrictions, social distancing and capacity limits have shaped residence life, classroom teaching and athletics this past year. Through it all, we’ve been encouraged by the dedication of our faculty and students as you’ve worked together creatively and diligently to make online teaching and learning successful.

BUT NOW, as we plan for the Summer and Fall 2021 semesters, we are looking forward to offering our classes on-campus and in-person. We are planning to return to “a near normal as possible” academic experience. We’re excited for the year ahead and welcome you, our students, on our beautiful 100-acre campus. Registration is open for all our students on March 17th.

Our residences and cafeteria have remained opened this year, and we anticipate that more students will choose to live on-campus moving forward. Recently, our fitness centre re-opened and we expect that there will be more opportunities for recreational and social gatherings as Manitoba Public Health continues to loosen its restrictions. We’ll keep you abreast of the changes as they happen on our www.prov.ca/COVID19 webpage.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is it safe to return to campus?

Yes, we are committed to ensuring our campus is safe for you, our students, as you return to live and study at our university college and seminary. We will continue to partner with Sodexo for all our cleaning and food services needs, as well as follow the most recent provincial Public Health guidelines to maintain safe living and learning environments during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are hopeful that the introduction and dispersal of the COVID-19 vaccine will help in maintaining the safety of the Providence community.

How will students be able to physically distance on campus?

Providence adheres to physical distancing protocols as outlined by Canada Public Health. Our entire Providence community must practice six-feet apart distancing on campus. We’ve removed furniture and reconfigured campus spaces to allow for physical distancing. In some cases, we’ve installed Plexiglas shields as an extra layer of protection in the Library and Welcome Centre.

We’ve put floor decals and directional signage throughout our hallways and staircases to facilitate a safe flow of traffic. Masks are mandatory in all indoor spaces on campus, including shared common areas in our residences.

Will social and recreational gatherings be allowed on campus?

We expect that there will be more opportunities for recreational and social gatherings as Manitoba Public Health continues to loosen its restrictions. We’re already planning a robust Welcome Week with lots of fun, outdoor activities including bonfires, pizza parties, Prov Cup games, varsity soccer games, an ice cream social and live concert.

Our cafeteria, library and fitness center are all now open for students living on-campus. We will continue to observe provincial guidelines for mask-wearing, physically distancing and capacity limits.
