David Johnson

President; Professor of New Testament

I came to Providence in 1990 to teach New Testament and Greek. In 2002 I became dean of the Seminary. In 2007 I became Provost. The Board appointed me president in 2013. I enjoy meeting new people as president and getting chances to share the great things God is doing at and through Providence. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my children and grandchildren, and hiking in national parks with Barb, my wonderful wife.

I am an active father and grandfather. I enjoy family time. Barb and I also enjoy traveling on our summer holidays, particularly to US and Canadian National Parks. I am involved at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church in Steinbach. I enjoy most sports and regularly participate in basketball and distance running. As a fiftieth birthday present to myself, in 2004 I ran in the Manitoba Marathon on Father's Day and the Twin City Marathon (Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota) in the Fall. I ran the Twin City Marathon again in 2005 and 2006. I have been backpacking at Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior ten times.
