Sem Classroom

For more than a year Providence evaluated its seminary in preparation for a renewal of its accreditation by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS).

Seminary faculty and staff produced a summary self-study document under the leadership of Dr. Stan Hamm, Dean of the Theological Seminary. A team of 5 people from peer institutions read the 140-page document carefully and visited Providence in March to assess the meaning of the self-study and to gain clarity on the Seminary’s faculty, programs, systems, and graduates. The peer review was submitted to the ATS Commission on Accreditation (COA) in June, and the COA voted to reaffirm Providence Theological Seminary and to approve all of its academic programs.

Providence has the only accredited seminary in Manitoba.

The COA commended the Seminary particularly for its library leadership, for its innovative and carefully designed practica in each of its professional programs, and for its strong counselling program.

Providence president, David Johnson, says, “This is another significant milestone in the journey of the Seminary as it fulfills its mission to serve the church by preparing leaders, creating resources, and fostering theological reflection.”

Dr. Hamm, notes, “The self-study reminded us again of God’s faithfulness in the faculty and staff that He has brought to us, and the students who come here to study and who go out into the world to be Difference-Makers.“

We are thankful for all those who contribute to the Theological Seminary with prayer, service, and financial investments.
