Providence Pilots are pleased to announce the 2019-2020 athletic schedule.

With the release of the MCAC calendar the Pilots season’s for basketball, volleyball and soccer are now set!

The Pilots men’s volleyball team will start the season on the road again in Alberta for the Ambrose tournament September, 13 and 14. As defending MCAC Champions they set off the MCAC season also on the road against school rival Canadian Mennonite University October 30th. Women’s volleyball follow suit on the road but head south of the border with a tournament at North Central University in Minneapolis the same weekend.

Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams have another tough, packed schedule ahead. The Pilots women’s team looks to defend their NIAC Championship. Returner Katelin Thiessen summed up her excitement by saying: “I know I can speak for all of the women’s basketball team when I say we are hungry. As soon as I stepped foot on the campus in 2017, I felt something that instantly attracted me. It wasn’t just a hunch. Little did I know, Coach Joel and this program were building something much bigger than basketball and I’m excited to be a part of that again.”

The men’s basketball team look to be poised to be a championship contender this year with second year coach Pierre Dubreuil at the helm. Coach Pierre commented by saying: “This next season has already started very well. The size of our roster is already improved compared to the last season. We have great new players in every position and already more players on the team than last year, with still three roster spots open. One of our issue last year was taking care of the rebounds. As a result, we gave up a lot of second chances after successful defences. The size and mindset of the players that are joining the team are definitely going to impact this area. I know that everybody is working hard during the summer so we can start the season strong and run the marathon until March. Returning players and recruits are ready to engage the next speed and work together for a championship.”

The Pilots soccer teams have a similar schedule as last year and hit the road early in their training camp to get the season underway. The teams head south to Duluth, Minnesota to play in some non-conference games against Northland College and St. Scholastica College. Men’s Coach Joseph Passi commented on the upcoming season by saying: “I’m looking forward to building off of last year. We had a hard-working team, with a phenomenal culture of boys who enjoyed playing together. We were a post away from knocking off the national champions in overtime at regionals, and even though we had almost zero experience in futsal, we were yet another overtime loss away from the finals against a very talented CMU squad. It’s the final year for a big part of the core of the team who have been here for a while, and so it’s obviously a huge year for us. We have a great recruiting class, full of high character and skilled players coming in who I know are going to fit right into our culture. The two big dates our team has marked on our calendars is MCAC finals (hosted by us), and regionals; which if won, will qualify us for nationals which is going back to where it all started – Florida. We’re excited!”
