This past weekend the Pilots women’s volleyball team headed south of the border to Minneapolis where the team participated in the North Central University Invitational. The tournament consisted of 4 games in two days. This was the team’s first games of the year. Head Coach Kyle Guenther had this to say about the tournament: “For being our first weekend of competition, I am very pleased with how we played. We are young and a bit inexperienced which showed throughout the 4 matches but overall played well. This team has come together so quickly on and off the court which makes me very excited moving forward.”
The team won 3 of their 4 matches and the three wins were all 3-0 set sweeps.
Results were as follows:
PUC def. Faith Baptist Bible College 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-17)
North Central University def. PUC 3-1 (25-15, 26-24, 22-25, 18-25)
PUC def. Calvary University 3-0 (25-17, 25-7, 25-22)
PUC def. Oak Hills Christian College 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-16)
First year player Kristen Taillon who was named as the tournament MVP this weekend had this to say about her first experience playing University ball: “I feel really good about how the weekend went and am feeling very optimistic for the season. We gelled really quickly as a team and I feel like we’re already comfortable and committed to each other. It went better than I expected for sure and was lots of fun.”
The women’s team play next on Friday, September 28 in Red Deer Alberta.
