Otterburne, MB – The Pilots soccer teams had a great showing this weekend as the men went undefeated and the women had one win and one loss for the weekend’s home games.
Saturday, September 15th was the Pilots MCAC home opener which saw the visiting Red River College Rebels come to town. The Pilots were up to the task and saw a 6-1 win for the women’s side and a 7-0 win for the men’s.
On Sunday the two teams hosted the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers.
The Pilots women’s side controlled the play for most of the game but found themselves trailing the blazers 4-1 at the end of the game. Head coach Tory Walker had this to say about the weekend games: “I thought our girls played a great weekend of soccer, although the result against CMU seems bad the game wasn’t as lop sided as the score. We had a few moments where we lost focus and the experience of CMU made us pay for our mistakes. The women on this team are dedicated to bouncing back and are focused on our next task next weekend in Winnipeg.”
Third year midfielder Madison will also commented saying “Our team played with heart and determination. We didn’t give up and through everything the weekend threw at us, we grew closer as a team and family.”
On the men’s side they went 2-0 this weekend beating both Red River & Canadian Mennonite.
Coach Joey Passi was pleased with the results and said: “Fantastic weekend for us to be honest. I thought our defense as an entire team was great across the board, and I love how we responded to getting a beat-down by Brandon our first game. The guys showed a lot of character and with these two wins they know we will be a very tough team to beat moving forward. And finally I thought our rookies played great and fit in nicely with the team.”
The Pilots soccer teams face University of Saint Boniface this Saturday in Winnipeg, game times are 1 & 3:15.
