FROM THE COACH:
“It is always great to be playing at home. Right from the beginning of the first match of the weekend, I could just tell our players were more comfortable and confident on the court. Day 1 couldn’t have gone much better. We have been searching for consistency this season and in both matches we saw more complete efforts in every area of the game. We imposed our style of play on both of our opponents and never let them get into any sort of rhythm. The second day we were not quite as sharp. St. Boniface always plays really tough defense and we had quite a bit of trouble putting the ball away. I was really impressed with our offense for not getting to frustrated in long rallies and found different ways to score. We showed a lot of fight in that 5 set victory. The match against CMU was an emotional roller coaster. After losing a fairly tight first set, the two teams went into an all out battle. It was some of the best volleyball on both sides at the tail end of the set. We went on to win a thrilling 30-28 set that stole the momentum away from a great Blazers team. Instead of that really changing the feel of the match, we came out flat for the next set and a half. We couldn’t seem to do much right in the 3rd or 4th. We went on a late rally in the 4th set but ultimately came up short. If this is any indication of how our matches will go this season, I’m really looking forward to how we will push each other and produce some great volleyball. Overall, a really great weekend for our team. Lots of good things to build off of going forward.” - Kyle Guenther
PLAYER’S VIEW:
“This weekend was great for us to see a team from our region in the NCCAA as well as see some teams from our MCAC conference. We had some great matches with our Manitoba competition which makes me really excited for the upcoming MCAC schedule. Our team took a huge step forward through these matches and did a really good job connecting in many ways. Our offense was clicking for the majority of the weekend which was nice to see. We have a lot of weapons on offense and it was great to be able to use all of them throughout the 4 matches. We hope to continue this as we face really good competition in a couple weekends from now.” - Maddie Fehr
