FROM THE COACH:
Hosting CMU on Friday night was a great test for our team as they sit on top of the MCAC and were riding a pretty decent win streak. We played them really tough for the majority of the first set but when it got to 18-18, we gave up a 7-1 run to lose the set. We couldn’t rebound in the 2nd and found ourselves down two sets to none. In the third set, we found our game again and played well up until CMU called a timeout with us up 19-18. Out of the timeout, we gave up a 7-0 run to lose the set and the match.
The next night, more inconsistent play resulted in a tough loss again. We gave up the first two sets pretty quickly. We seemed to play a lot more freely after that. We played some of our best volleyball of the season at that point in the match. The third set was a fairly clean set that went our way from start to finish. In the fourth, we found ourselves down the whole set and it really started to get away from us. Down 19-10, once again we found our game and made an incredible comeback to take the set 27-25. Riding that momentum, we played a fairly strong 5th set but couldn’t close it out in the end.
It was tough to see our team fight so hard in the comeback effort against St. Boniface only to end up losing a tight 5th set. Our team has shown a lot of positives over the last few matches and we have one more opportunity to get our first win of the MCAC schedule against CMU on Tuesday. We will try to build off the aggressive game we brought on the weekend and send ourselves into the Christmas break on a high note.
