Pilots Flight Report: Women's Basketball - January 10 & 11

The Pilots headed west this past weekend, to Briercrest for a clash with a top caliber CCAA opponent and fellow Christian College. The Pilots have competed against Briercrest only twice, during head coach Joel Coursey’s time at the helm. Both prior games were disastrous losses on home court, which didn’t provide any source of confidence for this road matchup. Both teams are having historic seasons and are looking to carry their success into March.

FROM THE COACH:
“It was a fun weekend and a great way to welcome in the new year. I was glad to get out on the road and spend the weekend together as a team. It helps to get us back on the same page after a long Christmas break. We were expecting tough competition from Briercrest as they have proven to be one of the strongest teams, currently ranked 5th in the CCAA. They are having a historic year for their program and hopefully they are able to build on their first half success and finish strong.
I was happy with our ability to compete with them on both nights and see the areas that are in need of improvement. Natalya showcased what she is capable of, with a career high 27 points in Friday nights game. Other then Nat’s big game, the weekend showed much of the spread out scoring that we are used to. We play a score by committee style, but it’s a lot of fun seeing one of the girls have a big night. I am happy with where we are at after the break, but there is much room for growth before March. We have some great competition ahead, beginning with Trinity Bible this weekend.” Joel Coursey

PLAYER’S VIEW:
“We knew Briercrest was going to be a tough opponent and facing them right after Christmas was going to make it an even bigger challenge. Although we had many moments of mistakes throughout both games, we managed to get the win on Saturday by never giving up. I was excited to play these games after Christmas and continue to grow closer as a team. This weekend felt like a good start to the second semester and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the semester brings.” Natalya Reimer
