Pilots Flight Report: Men's Futsal February 9

Game #1
GAME: Providence Pilots vs Red River College Rebels
SCORE: W 6-3
DATE: Saturday, February 9
LOCATION: Otterburne, MB

FROM THE COACH:
Red River had upset Saint Boniface in their previous game which had jumped them back into the playoff race directly behind us. This meant that if they were to beat us, they would have been tied with us for the 4th and final playoff spot which in turn made it a very important game. And the game didn't disappoint to be honest, it wasn't until mid way through the second half that we really got control of the game. Twice in the first half we were losing, and had to really take the game to Red River in order to create chances. Red River's strategy of sitting deep, and only sending long balls over the top made it hard to score on, and also took away counter-attacking chances that Futsal usually has. This game was our best in terms of positional awareness on the court, and that was the difference. The boys displayed good passing and good positioning in order to break them down. It was also nice to get Braeden back who really gives us a dribbling and shooting threat from the back. And it showed with him scoring 4 goals. I also thought Josue had one of his better games of the year. Great game overall for us.

PLAYER’S VIEW:
Braeden Owen: "Great weekend for us as a team and really important 3 points for us to get. One of our best games played together this year and proud of the boys for their effort."
Johnny Fulford: "This weekend was really big for us. It gave us a lot of affirmation that we are a good team with a lot to prove. Red River is a great futsal team, and our team was able to get back to full strength with the likes of Jay and Braeden returning, which contributed a lot towards our success. We are consistently trying to improve every week in preparation for the final stretch of the season and playoffs. I am very excited for our team."
