Pilots Flight Report: Men’s Basketball

The Pilots traveled south about 5 hours on Sunday to face Valley City State University despite the defeat, the Pilots are back at Providence stronger after playing a key game for the team spirit.

Game #1
GAME: Providence Pilots (2-2) vs. Valley City Vikings (0-1)
SCORE: 49-122
DATE: October 21, 2018
LOCATION: Valley City, ND

PILOTS KEY CONTRIBUTORS:
Cash Blanca – 17 pts – 2 Assists – 2 rebs
Chris Dick – 16 pts – 2 rebs
Jordan Lawson – 9 pts -8 rebs

FROM THE COACH:
The game against Valley City was very interesting in terms of intensity and aggression. Again, the team was facing tall players in the key, but we were able to stop a lot of passes and drives into the key. The first half was really good, Cash Blanca, Captain of the team, led the offence with a couple of baskets beyond the arc, forcing the defense to move higher. It gave us more space to attack the ring and find some buckets in the key. Chris Dick did a good job in challenging the defender of Valley City and ended the game with 16 pts.
The second half was more difficult as, with the tired legs the shots stopped dropping. But the team kept working hard, to fight for the rebounds. Jt Lawson had 8 rebounds and Waedon Dueck had 5.
This game definitely improved our chemistry as a team, and give me a lot of hope for the season.

PLAYER’S VIEW:
DeMar Kraus: This weekend was a great time for us to realize that we practice the way we play, and if we don’t practice in a strong, intense way like the game will be, we won’t perform the way we want to when it comes to game time. As a team, the game showed us that we need to compete at a high level in practice so during the game we can manage situation easily like in practice.
