Abbotsford's Mark Destura Commits to College Basketball Here in Otterburne, Manitoba
Despite being three provinces over, Abbotsford Senior Secondary School point guard Mark Destura, has committed to the Pilot's men's basketball team for next fall.
"I am very excited to be joining the Pilots next school year, because I can continue pursuing my basketball career as well as continuing my academic education," said Mark. "I am very thankful for the opportunity and I am looking forward to growing with my teammates and coaches on and off the court."
Mark comes to Providence to study in the Buller School of Business and play for the Pilots.
Jonathan Thompson, Mark's coach and Providence alumni, had this to say about the newest recruit for the Pilots, "I first met Mark when I was playing in the local Rec Center in Abbotsford, BC last year. His skills immediately stood out. I noticed his speed, his court awareness and his ability to breakdown defenders with ease.
Fast forward about a month, Mark contacted me about his interest in training. From my first session with Mark, I immediately knew that he had the potential to play at the college level. We started training in October 2019, which was 7 months ago. From then to now has been a noticeable growth not only in his skills but also his mindset. The combination of his speed/quickness and court awareness makes him a tremendous talent.
When coach Pierre reached out to me in search of players, I immediately thought of Mark as a great asset to Providence’s basketball program. He is not only a good player; he is also a better individual. He was an outstanding player in high school, and I believe that will also translate into Providence and his academic goals. My goal as a player development coach is not only building skillset but to help players achieve goals they never thought was in their grasp. I’m happy to assist Mark in his new journey heading to Providence University College."
Welcome to the Pilot family Mark!
