Otterburne - With summer break in full swing the men and women’s volleyball coaches haven’t stopped. The 2018-2019 Pilot volleyball season schedule is now finalized. Both the men and women’s team hope to continue where they left off as the women’s team captured the MCAC Volleyball championship last year and only lost 4 matches in MCAC league play.

Kyle Guenther, head coach of women’s volleyball had this to say about the upcoming season: “This coming season is going to be quite different for the women’s volleyball team. After having graduated a big group last year, there will be quite a few new faces on the roster this season. We will be young and full of talent and I’m excited to see where we can go with this group. I’m also very excited about our schedule for the fall as well. We have 2 weekends that stand out on our schedule to me. The first being our trip to Red Deer, Alberta. Last season we got to play some of the best teams in Alberta and I look forward to seeing how we match up with those teams again this season. The other weekend that I’m really excited about is our home tournament on the weekend of October 13-14. Usually this is more of an MCAC pre-season tournament with just the teams from Manitoba participating. However, this upcoming fall, we have teams from the U.S. and Ontario joining us to make for a 10 team tournament. Lakehead University who participates in Usports will be coming from Thunder Bay along with 4 teams from North Dakota. Lake Region State College, Oak Hills Christian College, Mayville State, and Mayville State’s JV team will be crossing the border to attend the Providence Invitational. This will be a great weekend of volleyball in our home gym.”

The men’s side made it to the MCAC final last season but fell short, but are hungrier than ever to get back on top. The men’s head coach Scott Masterson had this to say about the upcoming season: “We have a great season ahead of us. I think we have a solid pre-season that will help us prepare for the year. We are looking forward to hosting our alumni for the alumni games and we are also excited to host the MCAC Championships this year.”
